Phone Number Availability in Toronto

Put your business on the map! You can keep your existing phone number when you move to Versature's Hosted PBX.

How Local Phone Number Portability Works

For Versature to be able to port your phone number, we need to have equipment in your local telephone company's central office.  That is why providers like Versature have different geographic footprints where we can and cannot port numbers compared to our competitors.  With equipment in 200+ central offices across the country, we have a large and growing footprint .. but we do not currently cover the entire country.

If you are in an area where we are not able to port your number AND if you are close to an area where we CAN provide service, then there is a way that we can service your account and you can keep your current number.  For this to work, we use call forwarding services from your current telephone company, but it's important that you are a local call away from a central office that we currently service.  If your number is not currently serviced by Versature, please give us a call to find out if we may be able to provide service through this alternate means.

To make your number port go as smoothly as possible, here are the steps that we take :

  • When you sign up with Versature, we'll immediately assign you a temporary phone number in your local area.
  • Next, we'll assist you with filling out the number port paperwork.  Once submitted, the process with the telephone company can take as little as a few days and as long as 1 month or more.  Unfortunately, with this process we are at the mercy of the telephone company that you are porting from.
  • While we're waiting for the number port to go through, we'll assist you in forwarding your current phone number to the temporary one.  This allows you to start using your Versature Hosted PBX immediately.  Customers still call your main business number and have no idea they are being forwarded to your Versature temporary number.  The Caller ID that you present to customers when you call is not the temporary number, but your main business number.
  • Once the paperwork goes through and the telephone company does their part, the port is seamless for the customer because they're already setup on our system.  When the switch is flipped, this breaks the forwarding rule that you put into place and calls immediately start coming in over your main line again, which is pointed to our switch directly.  This process, refined over the years with hundreds of clients, allows for a smooth transition between providers and your current PBX.  Most people are surprised by the ease and simplicity.

If I port my phone number to you, do I still own the number?

Yes.  You always own your business phone numbers and can port it to the telecom service provider of your choice at any time.
