Company cuts costs, manages growth with Versature Hosted PBX

Company: INTECH Risk Management of Toronto provides independent risk management consulting to banks, financial institutions and other organizations in North America and around the world.

Goal: Cut communication costs and eliminate long-term phone obligations and contracts.

Situation: Before choosing the Versature Hosted PBX phone service, INTECH used a traditional Bell PBX server. The company was frustrated with the poor customer service it received from Bell and was unhappy with the long-term contracts and cancellation fees mandated by the provider.

“When the recession hit in 2008, we looked for ways to cut costs,” explains Fraser Roberts, Executive Vice President of INTECH. “Our phone system was a major expense and headache so we turned there first. We went looking for a less costly solution and suspected that a VOIP service would give us the savings we were searching for.”

Roberts was familiar with VOIP as he had previously used a free voice-over IP service to converse with his sister in Austria. “We knew that they worked on a residential basis, so decided to look for a business-level hosted phone service.”

Solution & Results: After comparing specifications from four different vendors, INTECH selected Versature’s Hosted PBX service. “Versature really stood out from the competition,” Roberts notes. “We examined the equipment and services offered by each company and found that Versature had all the business features we were looking for such as conferencing capabilities and multiple phone extensions,” Roberts adds. “We also saw potential in the voicemail-to-e-mail service because our management team is regularly on the road.”

Today, INTECH is enjoying the cost savings and improved customer service it had been looking for by using Versature’s Hosted PBX service. “We’ve cut our phone costs by about 65% by switching to Versature,” says Roberts. “We no longer have a prohibitive PBX service agreement, our cost-per-line has been substantially reduced, and we’ve reduced our long distance costs significantly.” Roberts also appreciates the knowledgeable support staff at Versature with whom he has built a rapport.

“One of the things we like most about Versature is the customer service. When I phone for help, I get someone immediately and it’s usually someone I know. The response time is excellent and the problems are always resolved. With our previous provider, we would be passed around or made to setup an appointment – with Versature we get our questions answered.” says Roberts.

With Versature, INTECH has also been able to offer seamless phone service to its international clients and staff. “Now, our clients can reach our representative in Austria by her phone extension – they no longer have to dial a separate phone number,” Roberts explains. “And, clients can dial our main line and reach anyone in the organization regardless of whether they’re on the road or working from home. We’ve even organized home offices as part of our pandemic flu planning activities – in the case of an emergency flu outbreak, employees can work from home and still receive calls and voicemails as if they were at the office.”
